Scorecast & Tablecast 02/01/2023

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

Hi everyone! Nice to be back to the "real" football again after another disappointing World Cup for England... still, it turned out to be a much more exciting tournament than I think any of us foresaw. Anyway, that's not why I'm here. Here's the status quo after Tablecast Gameweek 16 (and a bit of 17) as well as Scorecast's Boxing Day extravaganza.

First, the Premier League table as of 17:00 today - that's before Brentford v Liverpool. Don't forget, the live table will always be available at toontalk.uk/tablecast.

Newcastle still 3rd, and the bottom 3 have shifted a bit with Southampton now propping up the rest of the table. Only 10 points between 11th and 20th though, so anything can happen. Here's how the Tablecast league looks:

Possibly even more unlikely than Newcastle sitting in 3rd place... John Waters is top of the league! Well done Dad! I'm very gradually climbing from the bottom; George Bland has the unpleasant dishonour of sitting dead last at the moment. Kay Waters and Adam Bland have fallen from 6th/7th all the way down to 23rd/24th! Here's the top vs bottom comparison... only one correctly relegated team (Nottingham Forest) between them.

Don't forget, the league table and Tablecast table update automatically every two hours, so when there are other games on you'll be able to check the standings in the evening without having to wait for this report. You can do that by visiting

As for the Scorecast competition, here are the standings after Round 9. David Russell retains top spot but was outscored by 3 of the now top 6 so that lead's getting mighty thin. Only 2 points in it now. Last season's champion John Gair Thompson certainly making his presence known as the top 4 shuffle a bit but keep their top 4 status.

Top scorers are Roy Parkinson, David Osguthorpe, Stuart Latimer, and John Thomas with 12.

Top Half:

At the other end of the table, Geoff Selkirk continues to climb despite his 4 points being this round's worst total other than the zeroes, with several around him missing deadline. Ben Hylands, with a respectable 10 points, looks to make a late run for the top half... as do I, with an even more respectable 11. Kudos to Colin French, Robert Pentland, and David Miller, all of whom also hit double figures.

Round 10 isn't far away - Saturday 7th January at 3pm. It's all about the cups, with Newcastle still being in both of them in January for the first time in a while! We're looking for the score after 90 minutes plus stoppage time so draws could still be correct given that we're not taking extra time, penalties, or replays into account.

Good luck everyone!
