Scorecast, Tablecast, and Fantasy League update 27/08/2023

Well... I'm not in a very good mood. That was not an easy loss to take after bossing the game for 75 minutes. Hopefully either the Scorecast or Tablecast or both will cheer you up a bit. If you want to go to another section quickly:

First of all, welcome to...

Scorecast

... for the first time:

  • Glenn Gregory

  • Ryan Gibson

  • Christopher Nager

  • Andy James

A mixed bag for you four. Glenn, you've opened your account with a Round-second-best 11 points. Not bad at all! Ryan hit a respectable 7, enough to go above 2 people who've got a game in hand over him, and 7 people who've only played one game. Christopher is separated from the bottom by way of a solitary bullseye (Burnley 1-3 Aston Villa) and Andy, I'm afraid, is not separated from the bottom at all. Still.. nobody's got 0 in a round yet, so that's good!

Here's the table as it stands:

An outstanding Round-highest performance by Jon Gretar Levi Jonsson, who equals his last Round's 9th-place score of 13. Unlucky for everyone else, I guess! Yin Mo, George Bland, Kjetil Rykkje, Stephen Ferrell and Bill Wonders have done enough to keep around the top 10 and are joined by David Thredgill, Darren Wilkinson, Kevin Douglas, and ME!

Dismal round for Steve Beggs, who equals the early almost-unbeatable lowest score of the competition so far - 2 points. Biggest climber is John Christian whose 10 points (a 3rd-highest score along with David Threadgill, Darren Wilkinson, Kevin Douglas, and Joseph Askew) gained him 50 places; biggest fallers are Pete Davies and Malcolm Holloway, who've dropped 51 positions each.

Scorecast Round 3 is open now! You can play by clicking this:

Tablecast

The Scorecaster newcomers are all in the Tablecast as well and they've had differing fortunes there, too. Andy James is still amongst it, dropping from 8th to 13th; conversely Glenn Gregory is not out of it, climbing a mere 5 places to 71st. Ryan Gibson storms to 14th from 41st, and poor Christopher Nager... if you were to add his Tablecast and Scorecast positions together, it'd be 202 out of a possible 204. :(

Here's the Prem table:

Biggest climber was Freddie Rouse who's up 82 places to 3rd; biggest faller was an accolade shared by Richard Rigg, James Hedley, and Michael Waters who each dropped 75 places. David Waters and Stephen Renforth are the only two players to spend consecutive weeks in the top 10 - the latter goes top. Brian Waite, Dougie Gibson, Freddie Rouse, Christopher Coe, Stephen Ferrell, and Stephen Wallace all join the top 10.

It's still far too early for the table to take shape though. Most people have City to win, most have Luton relegated... but most have Newcastle, Man Utd and Everton a fair bit higher than they currently are, and West Ham considerably lower. I think after three or four more games, we'll start to get an idea of who's predicted a table close to the final one... but some of those will drop sharply and some will rise quickly to replace them. We'll likely have half a dozen or so, who spend a lot of time in the top 10, and the rest could be from anywhere. Or at least, that's my prediction based on how the new scoring system works.

Anyway, that's all from me for now. Don't forget to do Scorecast Round 3 - it's a short round this time (deadline is Friday at 8pm, ie. the kickoff of Luton v West Ham) so get your scores in quick! If you don't do the Scorecast and you're reading this... you've only missed two rounds so please do join in if you'd like to. The app's a bit better now :)

Besides that... it's Man City and Liverpool. We'll bounce back soon, and we'll be playing Champions' League football in a matter of weeks. Chins up.

Here's the Scorecast Stats Bulletin from Round 2; that's twice in a row I've gone with a 6-fold from 8 selections bet and ended up with 5/8 coming in. If only the Toon could've held on...

Fantasy League

Finally, more of an announcement than a report; the Fantasy League portal is up and running. It's in beta development at the moment, best viewed on a PC; if you're on a mobile device you will have to put your browser in desktop mode for now. These pages are pulling tons of data from spreadsheets (huge thanks to Michael Hannard for building the system) - it might take a while to load. If it's not done within a minute, refresh your browser and it should work. Any persistent issues, please do email rob@toontalk.uk and let me know. Here's a link to each of the leagues, which will show you the results so far, the form table, and Manager of the Week/Month winners; the main page will show you the schedule for all the Fantasy League-based competitions, as well as informing you whether the gameweek's scores have been updated yet. Cup and Tournament will be up and running soon too; some games have already taken place but I'll put a more thorough report together about the fixtures so far, after the first cup game has taken place.
